Modeling and System-Level Performance Evaluation of Sub-Band Full Duplexing for 5G-Advanced

This article presents sub-band full duplex (SBFD) as a duplexing scheme to improve the uplink (UL) throughput in 5G–Advanced networks, an alternative traditional time-division (TDD). SBFD provides opportunities transmit and receive simultaneously on non-overlapping frequency resources. To accomplish this, time slots include both UL downlink (DL) transmission. leads transmission being more expanded domain rather than domain, which allows increase amount of opportunity, compared TDD where majority are used for DL. Concurrent DL create different types interference, makes cancellation approaches essential appropriate performance. The interference types, including self-interference main challenge deployment, outlined corresponding analytical models proposed provide realistic evaluation System-level simulations with load conditions high-power urban macro environment evaluate performance comparison baseline. results indicate four times cell-edge users well 32% 6% average throughput, at low medium loads, respectively. Furthermore, simulation determine that least 149 dB mitigation is required acceptable SBFD. Results also show benefits limited by inter-site gNB-to-gNB interference.
